Drawn from Tradition

Brousseau & Dov is proud to introduce Laurent Trelaun, the artist behind the illustrations of our inaugural shaving bowl collection. A San Francisco Bay Area native, Laurent’s artistic journey began at the prestigious San Francisco Art Institute, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in painting. While developing his skills, he began working in tattoo studios, where he blended classic technique with creative freedom. Today, Laurent divides his time between Shangri-La Tattoo in San Rafael and Blackheart Tattoo in San Francisco, California, where his artistry continues to thrive. His passion for painting remains a constant, informing his creative work beyond the tattoo studio.

Inspired by the antique shaving mugs of the 19th and early 20th centuries, our designs draw on the nearly forgotten tradition of hand-decorated porcelain, each one adorned with imagery that once reflected pride in profession, place, or story. For Brousseau & Dov, Laurent’s bold linework and timeless aesthetic brings to life scenes like “Two Barbers” and “Stars and Stripes.” Drawing from historical references but reimagined through a contemporary lens, each piece reflects our commitment to artistry and tradition, transforming a shaving bowl into a work of art meant to be enjoyed.
